She Smiles Like the Sunrise by ~LadyHazy took an alternative route to create this doll, by starting off with a watercolour drawing. The result is very vibrant and detailed.

Description
A portrait of Rapunzel from the Disney movie, Tangled for The Disney Princess Pageant (a dolling contest)
Finally, she's done!
I know you can tell at first glance that this doll is kind-of different from all the others. For one, she resembles my drawing style a lot more closely than any of the dolls I have ever made. But it's mostly because I used an entirely different process than usual.
I knew I could never finish my TDP Round 3 entry on time after I had nearly finished the portrait and suddenly decided that I didn't like it. No - I hated it. I had decided that it was among the ugliest things I had ever created in my life.
But there was too little time left, and I couldn't possibly finish a portrait in three to four days (especially since I have a full time job.) I wanted more than anything to have a decent tablet or to be at least able to transfer my RL drawing skills to the computer (I have no scanner, and only a crappy camera.) And then I had this funny idea.
I remembered this doll by `Pyrochan-dolls which looks like a tooled doll, but isn't exactly a tooled doll since it wasn't made with digital media. And so I desperately drew out my watercolors and started painting this portrait using several Rapunzel photos for reference (primarily this photo.)
Afterwards, I took a (crappy) photo of it, posterized it in Picnik, and "post-processed" it by pixelizing it and adding some dithering.
Et voila! I finished on time. (It's still the 24th in the U.S. so I have time to submit it, anyway.)
Next up, Imma tweak with the full body a little bit and I'm set to mail them.
